Introduction

Chun Hong Kang received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). He holds a B.Eng. and M.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. His current research centered on advancing optoelectronic devices, sub-components, and integrated systems, with a particular focus on their practical applications in optical fiber sensing and optical wireless communication for oil & gas, agriculture, and underwater domains. He has contributed to over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings and holds multiple US/international patents. Dr. Kang has also received multiple academic awards and recognitions, including the SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship, Top Cited Paper Award by IOP Publishing, Outstanding Paper Award, and Highly Cited Paper Award by Light: Science & Applications (Nature Publishing Group).

In addition to his research contributions, he also regularly served as the technical reviewer for various peer-reviewed journals from OSA, IEEE, AIP, ACS, IOP & Wiley. He is also a member of IEEE, SPIE and OSA.
